while passing through a fairly desolate and hilly region north of sydney we chose to take a road blocked off for construction rather than take the 2km detour.. it turned out to be quite an adventure.. the road was completely caged off so we went around the fences through the bush at which point i thought we had passed the construction.. we hadnt.. it turned out that the entire road was a giant void that was probably 100 meters to the other side.. it was very difficult to cross with heavy bikes and involved lots of mud and unstable surfaces.. all said and done we did manage to knock 2km (3 minutes) off by not taking the detour, but we spent an hour doing it!!
