its been a while since ive had dog issues... probably since oklahoma or texas.. but coming thru some backwoods towns in southeastern australia i came a cross a few unleashed beasts.. not quite sure what it is about cyclists that dogs hate but as soon as you step off of your bike and walk up to them they will stop barking.. here is a short clip of some aussie muts:
