rode about 150k out of christchurch to go check out the central mountains via arthur's pass.. spent 4 days relatively alone exploring the surrounding areas.. it was amazingly beautiful but my ankle was killing me by day 3.. lots of steep climbs on shoulderless roads with headwinds etc... it was also the first time id ever left a city, rode for a while, and then came back to that same city! lots of fun
