global warming? what the hell is that?

this week in auckland and hamilton i was lucky to meet/stay with some local activists, some of whom where getting ready for an event this weekend about climate change, and i was happy to help them out by designing the below poster to be hung at the venue..
a while back, while living in nyc i asked myself the above question.. and rather than seek answers from the far right (it doesnt exist) or the far left (the world is coming to an end), i found some lectures and documentaries from some of the world's leading climatologists (climate scientists).. after which i felt like i had a good impartial idea as to what was actually happening.. during a phone call with someone close to me in pittsburgh this winter the topic of climate change came up and this person said to me 'mikey, aint no such thing as global warming, it's snowing like crazy here!'... and while this may seem ridiculous for many reasons (for starters snow is caused by precipitation, not temperature) to anyone that has researched the issue, this persons stance unfortunately seems to represent that of the herded masses.. rather than argue this one i just wondered for a while: 'why does this person think this, and is it a reasonable conclusion.. after some thought ive came up with these 3 reasons why someone might voice this opinion:
1. mainstream media in the united states, these days, seems to have the ethical integrity of a brothel in queens.. and since the networks are owned and influenced by people who have serious financial interests in petroleum consumption, this might not be the best source for information on this topic.
2. its a very comforting thought, and makes day to day life seem simpler and easier.
3. they simply dont have access to, or know how to find credible sources on which to base their opinions..
back in reality, the complex micro climates near the poles are getting warmer and ice there is melting at an alarming rate, and this is because the increasing amounts of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are trapping heat.. but the purpose of this post is not to say 'dont consume oil', as that would be both ridiculous, and very hypocritical of me since i just helped omit enormous amounts of co2 into the atmosphere getting from california to new zealand.. the point is to simply raise awareness of the reality of these issues, which would push governments, like the united states, to devote more resources to the development of alternate sources of energy, like say, oh i dont know, maybe that giant glowing ball of hydrogen in the sky? if you would like to look into this topic i would suggest watching one of the many many documentaries from bbc or pbs, but whatever you do DONT WATCH FOX NEWS!! as always thanks for reading!! please feel free to leave any thoughts by clicking on 'comments' below.. thanks!

My favorite post to date...You are more intelligent than 99.999%, if not all, of the people I know who have had intensive formal education. For one, you CHOOSE your sources of information, which takes both an awareness of your stance and an intense amount of dedication to credibility and eagerness to learn. I often sit back and wonder how many hours must exist in your day for your rate of intelligence to increase with such great frequencey. For me, the poster you created shows, in a nut shell, how much you have grown and developed your skills in so many areas of life, i'm super impressed. Also, it makes me feel so much better to know that you are influencing the minds of people who may not otherwise ever come to develop person opinions on such issues that affect each and EVERY one of us.
